UAA continues to foster dialogue around improving the competitiveness of Ugandan beef and beef products in export markets
As the secretariat of the National Beef platform, UAA is still fostering dialogue around improving the competitiveness of Ugandan beef and beef products in export markets. In March 2022, a Beef Policy Advocacy Action Plan was developed by the Policy/Advocacy Task Force of the National Beef Platform, based on two reports produced by FAO on the export competitiveness of Ugandan beef and on price incentives and disincentives in the Uganda beef sector.
One of the key action points raised in the Advocacy Action plan was to bring key public and private sector actors together to popularize the existing standards on beef meat grading system and hygiene standards.
On 12th/October/2023, the National Beef Platform Standards Sub-committee met to begin planning the work on popularizing information on the existing beef meat standards in Uganda. The forum was attended by representatives from FAO AgrInvest, Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), Uganda Meat Producers’ Cooperative Union, Kampala Butchers and Traders’ Association, Uganda Traders and Transporters Association, and KCCA.
