Background

The Uganda Agribusiness Alliance (UAA) represents the collective interests of the agribusiness industry in Uganda.

Founded in July 2014, UAA is a network of agribusinesses and agribusiness related apex organisations working towards an inclusive and competitive agribusiness industry in Uganda. UAA positions agribusiness as the most plausible agent of change to reduce poverty and economic vulnerability, improve food and nutritional security, as well as create employment opportunities for the majority of Ugandans.

Our passion is to help Ugandan agribusinesses of all sizes to thrive. We achieve this by: –

  1. Supporting members and partners to collectively identify and address systemic bottlenecks which affect agribusiness development across the country;
  2. Supporting and/or incubating multi-stakeholder networks, to find and take systemic solutions to the ground, and integrate them across value chains along with other value-chain specific interventions. These multi-stakeholder networks are either commodity value chain specific (e.g., Avocado, Irish Potato, Beef, etc.) or issues-based (e.g., on agricultural finance, responsible land tenure, human capital, as well as, food safety and market standards including Sanitary and Phytosanitary Standards, etc.).

Objectives

  1. To help create an ecosystem that encourages the creation of industry-to-industry linkages that drive on-the-ground action on business issues that matter for agribusiness growth;
  2. To promote inclusive, commercially successful, agribusinesses that benefit all actors in the value chain;
  3. To prepare, disseminate and promote the exchange of information on matters affecting the agribusiness industry in Uganda;
  4. To catalyse strategic multi-stakeholder partnerships and building strategic alliances;
  5. To raise awareness among domestic, regional and international investors about the attractiveness of Uganda’s agribusiness industry, in a bid to expand private sector investment in agriculture;
  6. To enable research and innovative growth amongst agricultural entrepreneurs through knowledge, business skills, technical development, finance, markets, networks and capital needed to advance their enterprises.
  7. To advocate for policies and legislation needed to build an enabling environment for agribusinesses of all sizes to thrive and grow.
