Uganda Agribusiness Alliance (UAA) is a leading national, private sector-led alliance working at the heart of Uganda’s agribusiness sector. We collaborate with key state and non-state stakeholders to identify and solve systemic challenges, advocate for a more robust industry, and implement innovative, multi-sector agricultural value chain projects.
We are looking for a motivated and qualified Agronomist to provide technical leadership and drive our efforts in climate-smart Agriculture Value Chain Development and Promotion.
In This Role, You Will:
- Be a Technical Leader: Provide expert advice on climate-smart crop production, protection, and improved practices to enhance yields and ensure compliance with national and international quality standards.
- Drive Field Impact: Conduct field visits to train, coach, and mentor farmers on better planting, cultivation, and harvesting techniques, directly contributing to the success of agricultural operations.
- Bridge the Gap: Connect smallholder farmers to markets and agribusiness actors, creating opportunities for value addition and better income.
- Design the Future: Contribute to designing new projects and documenting best practices in agribusiness and climate-smart agriculture.
- Champion Sustainability: Ensure all agricultural activities are inclusive, innovative, and environmentally sustainable.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Agronomy, Plant Sciences, Crop Sciences, or a related discipline.
- 1-2 years of practical experience in agricultural crop production, value chain development, and agribusiness.
- Strong knowledge of Uganda’s agriculture development and policy environment.
- Experience in project planning, implementation, and monitoring & evaluation.
- Excellent communication skills in English (both written and spoken) and a willingness to travel frequently to rural areas.
Desirable:
- Previous NGO work experience in agribusiness and value chain development.
- Experience with crop modelling software (e.g., CropWat, AquaCrop).
- Experience working with international organizations or public sector institutions.
