The Enabling Environment
A conducive environment for agribusiness industry development
Fundamental to UAA’s future success is a policy, legal and regulatory framework, which fosters the growth and competitiveness of Uganda’s agribusiness industry which, in turn, attracts private sector investments. UAA therefore advocates for relevant policies, laws, regulations and practices as well as a change in attitude towards agribusiness by key stakeholders.
Poor legal and regulatory frameworks, however, can be a result of government’s lack of understanding of the practical problems that private firms face within a specific subsector. UAA has established itself as a reliable partner to the government and hence serves as a focal point (with a lead role in maintaining positive dialogue with Government) for the agribusiness industry’s advocacy and engagement activities, allowing the private sector stakeholders to influence key decision makers on strategic issues that impact their businesses. This means that, in addition to only getting the private sector’s opinion, government also has a partner from the private sector who can facilitate and coordinate the private sector in the implementation of policies and programs, once decisions have been arrived at.
